It was already known that the Jets re-signed Jordan Jenkins at a bargain rate this offseason, but it turns out that the cost to retain the outside linebacker was even lower than initially reported.
When Jenkins agreed to a one-year deal to stay in New York back in March, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the pact was worth $5 million. However, according to Over The Cap, Jenkins actually re-signed for $3.75 million with $3.25 million guaranteed. The additional $500,000 is based on per-game bonuses.
That’s quite the get for Gang Green after Jenkins led the team in sacks in each of the last two seasons. He had a career-high eight in 2019 and totaled 15 over that span. Jenkins also recorded 32 tackles, nine for a loss, 13 QB hits, three passes defended and two forced fumbles last season. Per OTC’s 2019 valuation, Jenkins’ performance was worth $4,687,000 last year.
Jenkins is not considered an elite pass-rusher just yet — hence why he wasn’t paid like one — but the Jets got great value for a 25-year-old starter who has gotten better in each of his four NFL seasons. The hope for Jenkins now is that he can continue that trend with another season under Gregg Williams’ tutelage before hitting the open market again next offseason.
