Jets QB Zach Wilson signs rookie contract, bringing stalemate to an end

The Jets and Zach Wilson have finally come to terms on the quarterback’s rookie deal.

The Jets finally signed their second overall pick.

Zach Wilson has agreed to his four-year, $35.1 million rookie contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The deal comes with a $22.9 million signing bonus.

The signing comes a few days into training camp. The two sides had been haggling over offset language and the timeline of Wilson’s signing bonus payout. Per Rapoport, the Jets got their offset language, while Wilson will receive his bonus within 15 days.

The stalemate was reminiscent of the one the Jets had with Sam Darnold. The 2018 first-round pick missed the first three training camp practices that year due to disagreements over offset language.

Backups Mike White and James Morgan saw extra reps in Wilson’s brief absence, but the rookie will be the Jets’ starting quarterback in Week 1. He will have a much better group of players around him than his predecessors, such as Darnold. Joe Douglas made sure to surround Wilson with a rock-solid offense line and a bevy of talented pass-catchers and rushers.

Now that he’s signed, Wilson can get back to working with them at One Jets Drive.
