The Jets announced Saturday that they have completed an interview with Panthers OC Joe Brady.
Brady is just 31 and only has one year of NFL play-calling under his belt, but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the hottest up and coming candidates in NFL head-coaching searches this offseason. His offensive acumen and championship success as LSU’s former passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach have made him a sought-after name.
Carolina’s offense finished a mere 24th in points and 21st in yards per game, but the Panthers had star RB Christian McCaffrey for just three games in 2020. Brady was able to get over 1,000 total yards and eight touchdowns out of backup Mike Davis, however, and the coach also oversaw the first 1,000-yard season of ex-Jets WR Robby Anderson’s career. QB Teddy Bridgewater, meanwhile, played similarly to his Vikings days in his first year as a full-time starter since 2015.
Carolina receivers D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel also surpassed 1,000 yards from scrimage in 2020.
Credited for helping turn Joe Burrow into the 2020 No. 1 pick at LSU, Brady also worked as a Saints offensive assistant under Sean Payton from 2017-2018.
Brady is far from the most experienced coach the Jets have interviewed, but he has an impressive track record despite his age.
