Jets announce 31 moves to get down to initial 53-man roster

The 31 players moved to get the Jets down to 53.

The deadline for teams to trim their roster to 53 players came and went Tuesday afternoon. The Jets announced 31 moves Tuesday to get to the magic number of 53. Some were known Monday while the rest came down Tuesday.

Here’s the rundown of the players the Jets either released, waived, placed on Reserve/PUP or Injured Reserve to get the 53.

Released: QB Tim Boyle, FB Nick Bawden, WR Alex Erickson, WR Malik Taylor, OL Adam Pankey, OL Greg Senat, DL Bruce Hector, DL Jalyn Holmes, DL Tanzel Smart, DL Pita Taumeopenu, LB Sam Eguavoen, LB Nick Vigil, S Craig James, P Thomas Morstead

Waived: RB Travis Dye, RB Zonovan Knight, WR Jerome Kapp, WR TJ Luther, TE E.J. Jenkins, TE Zack Kuntz, C Trystan Colon, OL Chris Glaser, OL Grant Hermanns, OL Brent Laing, DL Deslin Alexandre, DL Marquiss Spencer, LB Claudin Cherelus, LB Caleb Johnson, S Trey Dean, CB Derrick Langford, CB Nehemiah Shelton, S Marquis Waters

Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform: S Jarrick Bernard-Converse

Injured Reserve: CB Jimmy Moreland

Suspended: CB Brandin Echols

Players that were released are eligible to re-sign immediately, so expect someone like Morstead to return to the Jets. A potential move there could be OT Carter Warren being moved to Injured Reserve which would allow Warren to return later in the season since he made the initial 53. Players that were waived have to go through waivers. If they clear, they are eligible to be signed to the Jets’ practice squad.

Bernard-Converse is out at least the first four games of the season after being moved to Reserve/PUP. Moreland is done for the season since he was placed on IR before the initial 53 unless the Jets release him with an injury settlement.

Echols is suspended for the first game of the season. He can return for Week 2. The Jets will need to make another roster move at that point, potentially taking out CB Bryce Hall.
