McKaskill vs. Braekhus: Tale of the tape

Jessica McKaskill

McKaskill (9-2, 3 KOs) stunned the boxing world when she landed the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO and IBO female welterweight belts in a fight in Tulsa, Okla. The undisputed female welterweight champ will now try to show her majority-decision victory Aug. 15, 2020, over the 39-year-old Braekhus (36-1, 9 KOs) was no fluke. “CasKILLA” would like to add The Ring Magazine belt to her collection in this battle.

Cecilia Braekhus

Braekhus is the more polished fighter with a lengthy history, and she is looking to regain her glory in Dallas on a much bigger stage in the co-feature bout. The 39-year-old has a lot more mileage than her counterpart, however, and Braekhus just didn’t bring the same kind of energy, intensity and punching power to the first match in Tulsa like McKaskill. In fact, she just looked tired and disinterested. The difference here is that McKaskill is a high-energy puncher, while Braekhus looks to win on technical ability and skill, trying to wow the judges while conserving energy. If you’re looking for the more exciting fighter, it’s definitely not Braekhus.

McKaskill vs. Braekhus: Odds, predictions and picks

MCKASKILL (+110) is the underdog worth playing on the 2-way line. Play the 2-way instead of the 3-way line to take out the potential draw, which is a real possibility in an evenly matched fight. McKaskill is the lean here, however, even though Braekhus has a ton more experience. She is just more energetic and capable of ending the fight inside the distance.

Playing MCKASKILL BY KO/TKO/TECHNICAL DECISION OR DQ (+1600) is certainly worth a small-unit bet because it pays so well. Why not roll the dice for such a huge payout in the event of a stoppage? But the best bet is MCKASKILL ON POINTS (+150). Even though she has big punching power and high energy, McKaskill still has just two knockout wins in 11 career pro bouts.
