Jerry Palm has Michigan jumping UNC in latest mock bracket

The UNC basketball program fell behind Michigan in the updated mock bracket by CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm.

The UNC basketball program enters Monday’s game against Florida State with the chance to go 2-0 in the final week of the regular season. While all the attention is on Saturday’s rematch with Duke, this game on Monday is one that UNC can’t lose.

A loss would be devastating to their NCAA Tournament chances. A win wouldn’t do much for them in terms of boosting that resume. That’s the tricky part.

UNC has won two-straight games as the season winds down including getting a Quad 1 win over Virginia on Saturday. But where does UNC stand now in terms of their bracket chances?

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm updated his mock bracket ahead of Monday’s games and he not only has UNC on the outside looking in but behind a few teams in the ‘first four out’ category. UNC is team No. 71 in his bracket. And the most interesting thing is that he has Michigan jumping them to No. 69.

Now, Michigan has been red-hot as of late and just beat a bubble team in Wisconsin thanks to a late shot by Hunter Dickinson.

The win helped UNC in terms of Michigan getting closer to being a Quad 1 win for the Tar Heels. But now it appears to have hurt them at least in Palm’s eyes.  The Tar Heels are also behind Penn State while being one spot ahead of Arizona State.

The most important thing for the Tar Heels continues to be winning games left on their schedule including the ACC Tournament. And that starts Monday.
