Jerry Jones still isn’t ready to fire Jason Garrett

The Jason Garrett era survives for another day in Dallas.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett met with team owner Jerry Jones for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, and while the team is reportedly expected to end the Garrett era after a disastrous 8-8 season ended without a trip to the playoffs, Garrett will remain in his position for at least one more day. NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported Tuesday that Garrett met with Jones, but that there is still no resolution on Garrett’s future.

Garrett’s contract expires on January 14th, and given Jones’ affinity for Garrett, it’s possible that the team is hoping to sever ties with Garrett without officially firing him early, at the cost of missing out on coaching candidates that may sign with other teams during that period. Fans and analysts continue to dunk on the Cowboys for dragging out a process that was long overdue.
