With just five picks to use in April’s NFL draft, the Denver Broncos might be preparing to trade away a wide receiver — or two — this spring.
Last week, after Courtland Sutton tweeted “I just want to be where I’m wanted and appreciated,” ESPN reported that the Broncos have had trade talks with teams about Sutton and Jerry Jeudy. A few days later, ESPN reported that KJ Hamler has also been mentioned in trade talks.
Of those three, Jeudy would presumably have the most trade value, and he seems to have drawn the most interest. Jeff Howe of The Athletic reported Wednesday that the New England Patriots have reached out to Denver recently about Jeudy’s availability.
The Broncos are seeking at least a first-round pick for Jeudy, according to Howe. Multiple teams tried to trade for Jeudy before the in-season deadline last fall, but Denver felt the offers were too low and held firm.
Now, with a weak free agent WR market, the Broncos might have more leverage. Denver seems more than willing to listen to offers for both Sutton and Jeudy, but the team hasn’t budged in negotiations so far. It’s possible that one — or both — of those WRs could land with new teams this offseason.
We also know that the Broncos were “very aggressive” in trying to sign Allen Lazard before he agreed to join the New York Jets. Clearly, Denver wants to make changes to the WR room this offseason.
It remains to be seen if the Broncos can fetch “at least” a first-round pick, but Denver has held firm to this point. Stay tuned.
