Jerry Jeudy injury: Broncos WR has a high ankle sprain

Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy might be headed for injured reserve after suffering a gruesome ankle injury in Week 1.

Story update: Jerry Jeudy’s injury is expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. See our original post below.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s 27-13 win over the New York Giants, coach Vic Fangio confirmed during his postgame press conference.

With a high ankle sprain, depending the severity of the injury, Jeudy might be sidelined for anywhere from several weeks to long as two months (or more).

Jeudy had X-rays at the stadium on Sunday that came back negative, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The former Alabama star is expected to undergo an MRI on Monday that might give more clarity on a recovery timeline for the receiver.

If the Broncos believe Jeudy will be sidelined for multiple weeks, they can place him on injured reserve to free up a spot on the 53-man roster. Players who go on injured reserve are eligible to return to the active roster after three weeks.

With Jeudy sidelined, Denver’s remaining receivers on the 53-man roster are Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, KJ Hamler and Diontae Spencer. The Broncos also have four receivers — Tyrie Cleveland, Seth Williams, Kendall Hinton and De’Mornay Pierson-El — on the practice squad.

Denver will face the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road in Week 2.
