Jerod Mayo officially turns Browns down as Patriots extension is imminent

The Browns are officially down a candidate.

The New England Patriots announced yesterday their intentions to do what it takes to extend Jerod Mayo to keep him in Boston. This is bad news for the Cleveland Browns as he was a top candidate for their vacant defensive coordinator role. Today, Mayo has officially declined the Browns’ request to interview him, signifying his deal with the Patriots is imminent.

This leaves Brian Flores, who is interviewing for the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals, Sean Desai, and Jim Schwartz as their candidates to replace Joe Woods. This is still a strong pool of candidates even if Mayo is now off the table.
