KNOXVILLE — Jimmy Brumbaugh joined Tennessee’s coaching staff during the offseason.
He is serving as the Vols’ defensive line coach after being in the same capacity for Colorado last season.
Brumbaugh took part in his first practice Tuesday for the Vols as Tennessee kicked off spring football.
Tennessee is getting ‘a winning attitude’ in Jimmy Brumbaugh
Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt discussed Brumbaugh following practice.
“Jimmy is a guy that I’ve known for a long time,” Pruitt said. “When he was playing at Auburn, we played against each other, and he’s a guy that has really grown in the profession with the work that he’s done at every stop along the way.
“He’s a great teacher and motivator. You kind of know what you’re getting in him every single day. You can see it out here when I’ve sat in meetings with him with how he teaches. I think he’s really hands-on and he brings a lot of knowledge at that position having played that position. He really is the style of defensive line coach that we’re looking for. When we had the job come open, we didn’t interview anybody else. We didn’t interview him. We just offered him the job and he came.”
Brumbaugh comes to Tennessee from Colorado where he served as defensive line coach. He previously coached in the Southeastern Conference at Kentucky (2013–16, defensive line) and LSU (2006–07, assistant strength and conditioning). Brumbaugh played at Auburn from 1995-99.
