Ever since the Chicago Bears traded for former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, everyone knew there was going to be competition for the starting quarterback job. Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky acknowledged the acquisition of Foles today in his press conference with the media.
Bears QB Mitch Trubisky on finding out about the acquisition of Nick Foles: "I think I was kinda pissed off in a good way. I’ve been motivated ever since. I’ve been motivated since last season. … I’m excited for this year. I think it’ll be a good competition."

Heading into his fourth year, Trubisky has been organizing workouts for weeks in the Chicago area with some of his teammates. One of his teammates, running back Tarik Cohen, notices Trubisky putting in the work.
“He’s slinging it right now,” Cohen said. “You still see the talent in Mitch.”
After a rough 2019 season for Trubisky and the Bears trading for a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, many believe that the job should belong to Foles and the second overall pick from North Carolina should be the backup. ESPN analyst and former All-Pro center Jeff Saturday took to NFL Live to say otherwise.
“They are (Trubisky’s team),” Saturday said. “Listen, it’s his job to lose. This is the thing. I get Nick Foles is coming in. I understand from a guy who came in as an undrafted rookie free agent, every year they’re trying to draft somebody to replace you. Quarterbacks, it usually doesn’t happen to them. He’s fighting for his job.
“But Nick Foles, set aside his Super Bowl run with the Eagles, his career hasn’t been — he’s just not a complete starter in the NFL. I’m glad Trubisky is saying, ‘I’m pissed off in a good way. I’m willing to work. I’m going to make this my team.’”
Last year Trubisky finished the season with 17 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and 3,138 yards with a 63.2% completion rate, which caused a ton of frustration for Bears fans. Trubisky can’t control what the front office does and who they bring in, but he can control how he plays and his business. The Bears also declined Trubisky’s fifth year in his rookie contract, so that and the addition of Foles could light a fire under the 25-year old quarterback.
Regardless, it’s great to see Trubisky working with his teammates in a tough offseason and to see him handle the competition well.
