No matter who Jedd Fisch has on his Washington Huskies roster, he reminds them that one day, football will end for them. From Will Rogers, Denzel Boston, and Zach Durfee, to the walk-ons, everyone will take their last snap someday.
Much like Chris Petersen’s “Built for Life” program, Jedd Fisch told the Big Ten Network that he wants his players to be “LIL” or Leaders in Life. In an interview with the Big Ten Network, Fisch described his philosophy for helping his players prepare for life after football.
“I like to say that everyone knows what NIL is but I don’t know how many people know what LIL is,” Fisch said. “That’s our leaders in life. We believe it’s our responsibility as coaches and as a program to develop and create leaders, so we’ve invested a lot of time and money into that.”
“We’ve created a whole Fifth Quarter room where we discuss when the game’s over, what are you going to do with your life? We try to believe that we can build unity that way. We do team bonding that way and try to help these kids learn and create a life outside of football.”
Multiple players on Washington’s roster have spoken about the culture that Fisch is building in Seattle and with the significant investments he’s made to improve both on and off the field, his team could find success rather quickly this fall.
“It’s our responsibility as coaches and our responsibility as a program to try to develop and create leaders.”🗣️
