Washington Huskies edge rusher Zach Durfee has had a very strong start to the season, but he has also been plagued by a toe injury. The former Sioux Falls transfer tallied 2.5 sacks against Eastern Michigan after being listed as questionable coming into the game but was unable to suit up against Northwestern due to the same injury, according to Fisch.
“With Durfee, I’m optimistic that he’ll be able to play in the game this Saturday, but it’s going to take a big commitment to treatment and a big commitment of the training room, and him really trying to get himself ready,” said Fisch.
In Washington’s 21-18 loss to Rutgers, Durfee got off to a hot start. He was an integral piece of defensive coordinator Steve Belichick’s run fits against Scarlet Knights star Kyle Monangai, but he was able to play just 13 snaps before the injury flared up on him, and he wasn’t able to return to the contest.
“Medically, we just have to get his toe right. If he can get to a place where he can plant and chase the ball carrier, then he’ll play.”
