Coach Jedd Fisch is making a big push to increase Washington’s NIL fund to ensure the Huskies are as competitive as possible in the Big Ten. The school’s NIL collective, Montlake Futures, launched its “Win Big” campaign in early July in an attempt to tap into more donors, and at Big Ten Media Days, Fisch continued to stress the importance of NIL in college sports.
“You know, some of these teams are having rosters that are 10 million dollars higher than ours,” Fisch told On3’s Steve Wiltfong. We’ve got to find a way to continue to enhance that, but on top of that, understand that when revenue share kicks in, we’re all going to be playing with the same cap.”
“We’re behind where they are substantially at this point. But we know that when revenue share kicks in we’re going to be equal, then we’re going to be able to utilize Seattle to our advantage and then hopefully surpass some of them.”
Now that state laws in Washington surrounding NIL have changed and allow university officials to discuss and promote it, Fisch, athletic director Pat Chun and other coaches around the school have become driving forces around what they hope will be an influx in donations.
Since he arrived in Seattle, Fisch has done his best to tap into all the resources that Seattle has to offer, from Fortune 500 companies to some of the richest people in the world like Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, and could see an increased NIL pool soon.
