Jayson Tatum spends a moment with the Larry O’Brien Trophy in the locker room

The third overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft took a second to cradle the most coveted trophy in basketball after Boston’s NBA Finals triumph.

For the first time in his NBA career, Jayson Tatum got to hold the Larry O’Brien Trophy on Monday night.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 of the best-of-seven series, winning by a total of four games to one. Tatum, the former Duke Blue Devil who went third overall in the 2017 NBA draft, finished the close-out game with 31 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds to become the eighth former Duke player to win a ring.

After sharing a heartwarming moment with his son, Deuce, on the court during the aftermath of the deciding victory, Tatum got to lift the big gold trophy that every NBA player chases.

He thrust the Larry O’Brien Trophy up in the air on stage in front of the crowd, but the 26-year-old shared a more intimate moment with the trophy in the locker room after the game. ESPN captured him cradling the trophy to his chest with his son just a few feet away.

Tatum now becomes arguably the best Duke player in NBA history at just 26 years old.
