Former Alabama wide receiver [autotag]Jaylen Waddle[/autotag] was drafted by the Miami Dolphins No. 6 overall in the 2021 NFL draft, just nine picks later, his former quarterback and college teammate [autotag]Mac Jones[/autotag] was selected by the New England Patriots.
Waddle and Jones had a great connection, both helping each other out significantly in their final year of college football before declaring for the NFL draft.
When the season concluded and both were involved in media interviews leading up to the draft, Waddle was asked whether he preferred Jones or [autotag]Tua Tagovailoa[/autotag], who had been drafted a year earlier by the Dolphins.
When Waddle answered with Jones, it was all over the headlines that Tagovailoa, who started over Jones in college, was not as good as Jones.
Recently, Waddle joined Chad Johnson, Omar Kelly and others on the I Am Athlete. Podcast. He was asked about that comment.
Waddle’s answer was simple. In fact, some had even correctly speculated in 2021 that this was the case. Waddle said that he chose Jones over Tagovailoa because one was already in the league and the other would have benefited from an endorsement from one of the top receivers in the draft class.
