Jaylen Brown, Tacko Fall, Grant Williams model official City Edition jerseys

Check out how the new City Edition jerseys REALLY look.

The Boston Celtics have released images of their players sporting the official 2020-21 City Edition jerseys, and we have to say they look pretty solid.

Not flashy, not deep — but good, simple, and uncomplicated.

After their failed attempt at celebrating the city’s Irish heritage and having fans rightfully point out it was both heavy-handed in how it tried to do so and unnecessarily excluding much of the city’s contemporary identity, this was probably the right pivot — an aspect of shared heritage we can all get behind.

And in case it isn’t obvious (because for many it is not), the design is a nod to the banners hanging overhead in TD Garden.

If the resemblance to those 17 banners commemorating as many titles for the Celtics doesn’t resonate, we understand. No design job is perfect.

But as understated as they may be, they aren’t too much — and we think that’s exactly what was in order for this season, after last on several levels.
