Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and the late Terrence Clarke had a special bond. That was made clear Sunday at a court naming at Vine Street Community Center in Roxbury to honor Clarke, a Boston-area college basketball player at Kentucky who died in a car accident earlier this year. Brown spoke at the court naming Sunday, with fellow NBA players Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, John Wall and Aaron Nesmith also in attendance, according to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss.
“This is an emotional moment for everybody,” Brown told The Athletic. “We have a saying we like to say in our family, that energy lives forever. And as long as we uphold his name and speak of his name in high spirits, Terrence is still alive. We wanted to honor him in the way he needs to be honored.”
The court at Vine Street was one Clarke grew up playing at, according to Weiss. It now bears his name.
Brown also presented Clarke’s mother with a piece of the parquet floor from TD Garden at the court naming.
