Jaylen Brown downgraded to OUT vs. Clippers; Payton Pritchard available

Jaylen Brown (knee) has been downgraded to out for tonight’s tilt with the Clips, but Payton Pritchard has been upgraded to available.

The Boston Celtics have decided to sit star forward Jaylen Brown for Friday night’s contest with the NBA’s second-place Los Angeles Clippers. It leaves the team dangerously thin on the wing with guard Marcus Smart remaining out as he recuperates from a calf tear, Brown dealing with a sore knee in need of rest.

But the Celtics have also upgraded rookie point guard Payton Pritchard to available for the game. The Oregon product missed extended time due to a sprained MCL caused by Brown of all people inadvertently falling into it as he lost control on a play early in Boston’s Jan. 22 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The first-year floor general’s return will help bolster the backcourt rotation in Smart’s absence, and will likely push much of Boston’s bench into extended minutes and atypical roles to help make up for Brown taking the night off.
