Just because there is a new president in the United States doesn’t mean Boston Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown thinks the hard work ahead to achieve racial equity has ended, he revealed while speaking with the media on Thursday.
Asked his thoughts about the inauguration of President Joe Biden on Wednesday, Jan. 20 ahead of the Celtics tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers in the context of the work he put in in the Disney restart bubble, Brown had much to say. “My dilemma was never with any presidencies or selections of different faces,” began the Cal-Berkeley product on the events of that historic day.

“It’s more about the system that I think needs to be changed, so I definitely think that a lot of people felt at ease knowing that there is a different president that’s going to be representing going forward,” Brown explained.
“I know there was a lot of stress attached to our former president potentially, but I definitely want to keep the same energy up in terms of having the awareness and pushing forward for change. We all obviously have had glimmers of hope in the past and they haven’t necessarily panned out to any direct change, so I don’t want this situation to be any different. I want people to still keep the same energy. And just because we have a new president doesn’t mean the system doesn’t need to be changed and people need to be pacified or anything like that. We’ve got to keep the same energy up; people have still got to care, people still need to make phone calls.”
“I’m looking forward to continuing to fight for change,” he added.

“I don’t want to be pessimistic, but I think now having a new face [in office], people are taking their foot off the gas, thinking that everything is ok now. I would like to challenge that,” he continued.
“We still have a lot of work to do, regardless if Biden is in office or not.”
Given even prominent liberals like John F. Kennedy known for their support of civil rights in history books were also guilty of delaying taking up the cause in favor of other concerns, there is more than a little precedent for the Georgia native’s concerns.
That even now in a moment of triumph for some Brown continues to push with his eyes on the prize bodes well for future successes in that arena for the Celtic forward.
