Jay Glazer destroyed Ben Roethlisberger’s lackluster offseason fitness program

“There is no fitness in Ben Roethlisberger.”

The global coronavirus pandemic has forced professional athletes in every sport to get creative with staying in shape for the eventual return to competition.

But at least according to Fox Sports and The Athletic’s Jay Glazer, not much from a fitness standpoint has changed in the daily life of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger appeared in just two games last season after a Week 2 elbow injury ended his 2019 campaign. In Glazer’s mailbag with The Athletic, a fan asked if Glazer thought that the Steelers would be a sleeper team for this coming season … with the assumption that Roethlisberger could return to at least 85 percent fitness.

Glazer saw that remark as an opportunity to go in on Ben’s fitness program. Via The Athletic:

First of all, let’s not put the words fitness and Ben Roethlisberger together, they are allergic to each other. There is no fitness in Ben Roethlisberger. His idea of a great off-season workout program is doing one yoga session, playing golf, and drinking some beer. However, yes, what Mike Tomlin and Roethlisberger have done there has been incredible.

Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I want fans of other cities to realize that. Never had a losing season since he’s been with Pittsburgh. Despite injuries and they are obviously not the most aggressive team when it comes to free agency, having Le’Veon Bell holding out, the Antonio Brown situation, it’s incredible. He’s changed coordinators, gone through offensive coaches, defensive coordinators, but the dude has never had a losing season. Don’t sleep on them ever.

One yoga session, golf and some beer … just ouch, Jay.

But despite being a professional athlete with a nonexistent training regimen, Roethlisberger has been generally able to avoid extended time away from the field due to injury. Last season was the lone exception, so I guess that program works.
