Jay Crawford earns All-Freshman honors from Pro Football Focus

Crawford quickly became one of Auburn’s top defenders this season and is being recognized for his efforts.

Freshman cornerback [autotag]Jay Crawford[/autotag] may not have been Auburn’s prized 2024 signee, but he quickly made a name for himself.

The former three-star recruit from Lilburn, Georgia earned his first start at cornerback in Auburn’s week five contest against Oklahoma and would go on to make 15 tackles with seven pass breakups and an interception.

Crawford’s hard work is not going unnoticed, as Pro Football Focus has included him on their 2024 All-Freshman team. He earns the honors after grading out at 77.3 defensively and 78.3 in coverage. On Auburn’s defense, he held the seventh-highest defensive grade and the second-highest coverage grade.

The most impressive stat of all was his coverage skills. He allowed 13 catches to be made in 32 opportunities for 179 yards and two touchdowns.

He recorded two tackles in his first start against Oklahoma, and recorded a season-best four tackles twice this season. In Auburn’s 24-10 win over Kentucky, he logged two tackles and his first career interception. He broke up a season-high three passes in Auburn’s 17-7 loss to Vanderbilt in November.

Seven players from the SEC earned a spot within the All-Freshman team from Pro Football Focus. Joining Crawford on the list is Florida QB DJ Lagway, Alabama WR Ryan Williams, and Ole Miss DL Jamarious Brown.
