Mark Pope and his staff were looking at multiple options to fill the final spots on the 2024-25 roster, but former BYU guard Jaxson Robinson was the preferred one. After a drama filled deadline day, the Wildcats landed their man, as Robinson pulled his name out of the NBA draft and committed to Kentucky.
Wednesday night was the deadline for all college players to opt out of the NBA draft, and so fans were eager to see what Robinson would do. Big Blue Nation waited all day, and as midnight passed, fell asleep still unsure what was happening.

On Thursday, the news finally broke, and Robinson was a Wildcat. Last season, at BYU, Robinson averaged over 14 points per game, and shot over 35% from three-point range. He led the team in scoring despite coming off the bench for the most part. He was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year for his efforts.
The addition of Robinson for the Wildcats is a big deal. Obviously, they get a terrific perimeter scorer and top level player overall. However, they also get someone experienced in Mark Pope’s offense. As the staff tries to bring together a group of players who have never played together, having at least one guy who knows the system matters.
