Colorado men’s basketball guard Javon Ruffin will miss the upcoming 2023-24 season due to ongoing knee issues, as first reported by BuffZone’s Pat Rooney.
The same injury sidelined Ruffin for the entire 2021-22 campaign plus 11 games last season, including the Buffs’ final seven.
But when healthy last year, Ruffin was one of CU’s better 3-point shooters. His 35.8% (28-for-67) mark ranked second on the team behind Tristan da Silva’s 39.4%.
In 24 games played, Ruffin averaged 6.0 points, 2.4 assists and 0.8 assists.
“It’s definitely frustrating,” Ruffin told BuffZone regarding his latest injury setback. “It sucks to see that I can succeed and that I can be a good player at this level, and then not be able to show it anymore. It sucks watching the team play knowing there’s nothing I can do to help them on the court. But I know when I come back, I’m going to be better than I was before.”
Fortunately, Colorado remains a fairly deep squad following the program’s offseason additions of TCU transfer big man Eddie Lampkin Jr. and incoming freshman forward Bangot Dak. Shooting guard RJ Smith, who redshirted last season, also returns as an option off the bench for head coach Tad Boyle.
