Bears head coach Matt Nagy has always been one to keep injury news in house until there are immediate updates. But that’s not left tackle Jason Peters’ style, and he broke some news with injury updates on rookie offensive tackles Larry Borom and Teven Jenkins.
Peters told the media he’s expecting Borom, a fifth-round rookie, to be activated off injured reserve this week. He also expects second-round rookie Jenkins to return in a couple weeks. Peters has been working with both to get them up to speed.
“They want to learn,” Peters said. “They’re asking questions all the time.”

Borom, who served as a backup left tackle on the depth chart, suffered a high-ankle sprain back in Week 1. He was placed on injured reserve shortly after. Borom has missed six games while battling his ankle injury, and it sounds like he’s ready to return this week.
Jenkisn, who was expected to be the Bears’ starting left tackle this season, missed all of training camp with a back injury, which required surgery. The hope was he’d be able to return at some point this season, and it sounds like it’s going to happen sooner than many expected, according to Peters.
The timing couldn’t be better as Chicago has been dealing with offensive line issues, particularly at tackle. Right tackle Germain Ifedi is still on injured reserve with a knee injury and his backup Elijah Wilkinson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of last Sunday’s game against the Bucs.
Former seventh-round pick Lachavious Simmons got the start at right tackle on Sunday to disastrous results. He was benched and replaced by Swiss Army knife Alex Bars, who’s placed every position on the offensive line at this point.
