ATHENS — No. 12 Tennessee (2-1, 2-1 SEC) took a 21-17 lead into the second half at No. 3 Georgia (3-0, 3-0 SEC) Saturday.
The Vols were outscored in the second half, 27-0, losing 44-21. Tennessee turned the ball over three times in the second half behind one interception from Jarrett Guarantano and two fumbles by the signal-caller.
“Turnovers are a big part of any game,” Guarantano said following the game. “For them to create turnovers, that is one of the reasons they won. Props go to them.
“I thought they were a really good defense. They are probably the best defense in the SEC, and that we have seen in a long time. They were able to create turnovers, and get the job done when we didn’t.”
Tennessee will return to action Oct. 17 against Kentucky at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is slated for noon EDT.
