Jarrett Allen among 12 NBA players to receive DPOY vote

Brooklyn Nets big man Jarrett Allen continues to be one of the best rim protectors in the NBA.

The NBA announced its 2020 Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday. This year, the honor went to the reigning NBA MVP, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, who finished second to Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert in the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year running.

Gobert was among those up for the award in 2020, as well. He trickled down to No. 3 in the voting, behind both Antetokounmpo and Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis.

But Gobert was not the only pure center to make the list. Cleveland’s Andre Drummond, Portland’s Hassan Whiteside and Milwaukee’s Brook Lopez were also among the fives considered for the award.

Rounding out all the centers — and players — to received votes for 2020 Defensive Player of the Year was none other than Brooklyn’s own big man, Jarrett Allen.

The Nets center finished 12th in the NBA in voting, receiving one third-place vote.

Over the course of 70 regular season games, Allen averaged 1.3 blocks a night while posting a 109.6 defensive rating.

Last year, Allen finished ninth in the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year voting alongside Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley.
