Jared McCain named to All-ACC Freshman Team, second in Rookie of the Year voting

Duke freshman Jared McCain was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team on Monday after he finished second in the conference’s Rookie of the Year voting.

Jared McCain, the stellar Duke freshman who averaged 13.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this season, was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team on Monday.

The California native and five-star recruit finished the season with seven 20-point games, including a 35-point performance against Florida State, and four double-doubles.

In his first eight games as a Blue Devil, McCain averaged 7.7 points per game. He averaged 15.7 over the rest of the season.

The first-year guard finished second in the conference’s Rookie of the Year voting with 20 of a possible 75 votes. Notre Dame’s Markus Burton (17.3 points, 4.3 assists) won the award with 46 votes.

McCain also narrowly missed out on one of the three all-conference teams, finishing as an All-ACC Honorable Mention. He received 29 points from the voting, the third-most of any honorable mention.
