Jared Goff sits out Friday’s practice, Tim Boyle again gets 1st-team reps

It appears unlikely Goff will play vs. the Browns, with Boyle in line to get his first NFL start

Jared Goff did not participate in practice on Friday, which means the Detroit Lions starting quarterback appears to be out of the running to play in Sunday’s game in Cleveland.

Goff has been battling an oblique injury suffered in the Week 10 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers all week. He has not participated in any of the practice sessions, and was spotted standing off to the side in street clothes during the portion of Friday’s practice open to the media.

Based on what head coach Dan Campbell said before practice, it appears Goff will not play vs. the Browns.

“Just see where he’s at,” Campbell said. “But until we know more from there, we’re planning on (Tim) Boyle (being the starter) and then certainly (backup David) Blough’s ready.”

Boyle has taken all the first-team reps in practices this week. He currently remains on the IR/designated to return list but is eligible to be activated any time. The Lions will make an official injury decision and designation later on Friday.
