Last offseason, the Los Angeles Rams rewarded Jared Goff with a massive new contract extension, which pays him $134 million over four years with $110 million guaranteed. His average salary of $33.5 million per year ranks third among all NFL players, which shows how committed the Rams are to their quarterback.
He may not be the best player in the league, but Goff is still one of the highest-paid not only in the NFL, but in the world. Forbes recently released its list of the highest-paid athletes worldwide for 2020 and Goff checked in higher than some might expect.
He ranked 15th in the world, with Forbes estimating his earnings for the year at $49 million – $47 million from salary and $2 million from endorsements. Goff is ony of just three NFL players in the top 20, joining Kirk Cousins (9th) and Carson Wentz (10th). Tom Brady (21st) and Drew Brees (22nd) just missed the top-20 cut, while Julio Jones was 26th, Grady Jarrett was 37th and Michael Thomas finished 39th.
The Rams are tied to Goff for at least the next four years, but that doesn’t lessen the importance of the 2020 season for the young quarterback. After a disappointing 2019 campaign, Goff needs to bounce back in order to not only help lead the Rams to the playoffs, but prove Los Angeles didn’t make a mistake by giving him that huge contract earlier than it needed to.
Last season, Goff threw 22 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions, attempting an NFL-high 626 passes in 16 games.
