Jamien Sherwood will miss the rest of the 2021 season, the New York Jets announced.
Sherwood, who plays linebacker for the New York Jets, suffered a torn achilles in the Jets’ Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots.
Sherwood was a fifth-round pick by the Jets who moved the former safety to linebacker. The transition has gone well, he has appeared in five games and made four starts. He was the starting MIKE linebacker against the PAtriots last week before he suffered his injury.
Sherwood made 14 tackles over 139 snaps before his injury.
Prios to the game, Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke about the importance of Sherwood,
“He’s one of the guys who’s going to be a staple here,” Saleh said. “He studies his butt off. As for his size, he is going to get bigger when he gets a full NFL offseason and meal plan. He has the ability to uncoil and tackle people, one of the best in the draft. He doesn’t give up many leaky yards. Let’s just say that and he’s only going to get better.”
