Former Memphis Tigers center James Wiseman is projected to be a top-five pick in the NBA Draft and has reportedly looked dominant in workouts against other prospects, according to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic.

Wiseman, who played in just three games with the Tigers last season, has been highly touted given his size, length and offensive skill set inside the painted area. He also possesses elite athleticism that some believe can help him develop into a strong defender at the next level.

Given his skill set, Wiseman is apparently thought to be among the safest picks in the draft. There are questions regarding his potential, given his limited offensive ability, but he is viewed as a safe pick nonetheless, according to Vecenie.

He’s looked dominant in workouts and in the runs with other high-level NBA Draft prospects. A lot of executives I’ve spoken with actually consider Wiseman to be among the safer players in the draft. Simply put, few executives doubt that his size, length, athleticism will translate into being a starting quality NBA center.

The biggest knock against Wiseman is that he is a prototypical center that can’t help space the floor and shoot from beyond the arc. Teams have questioned whether or not he can develop an outside game and how much more he can improve, which is why he is viewed as a safe pick.

Based on his ability, though, Wiseman still projects to be a high pick. He won’t turn 20 years old until March and still has plenty of time to develop his offensive game to fit into the modern NBA game.
