As the New England Patriots trudge through the remaining two games of the 2020 season, there are growing calls for the team to start second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
Although he is not calling for Stidham to start, Patriots running back James White thinks the quarterback will be good whatever he has a chance to take the field consistently.
On the season, Stidham has thrown for 226 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. His best game statistically this season was in mop-up duty against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 6. He threw for 61 yards and a touchdown in that game.
White sees a promising future for the young quarterback, and he said as much during a radio appearance on Monday.
“Jarrett is a good football player,” he said Monday on Dale & Keefe with Nick “Fitzy” Stevens and Andy Hart filling in. “Obviously, you could tell that coming in his rookie year learning and things of that nature. He has all the talent he needs to be successful in this league and I am sure he’s probably excited for whenever he gets the opportunity to step out there and I think he will be great whenever he does.”
Bill Belichick did not have a ton to say when asked whether Stidham would start over these next couple of games. Despite the uncertainty, Stidham will undoubtedly be a hot topic of discussion for these next couple of weeks.
