The Cincinnati Bengals could have something special on their hands with the A.J. Green-Joe Burrow connection in 2020.
Days after the world found out Green signed his franchise tender and will play on the tag in 2020, former NFL wideout James Jones hit up NFL Network and said he could see the veteran wideout putting up 15 touchdowns thanks to Burrow.
“Fifteen touchdowns. That’s the first thing that comes to mind. I know the type of route runner and playmaker A.J. Green is and then you’ve seen all the special throws Joe Burrow can make…A.J.’s going to get a lot of targets. He’s going to be the young fella’s favorite weapon out there.”
It’s not hard to hate the idea of Green having a monster season with potentially improved quarterback play under center. But 15 is a bit rich — Green has never tallied more than 11 scores in a season. This offense could spread it around plenty too as it works in Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, John Ross and a stable of strong running backs.
Even so, Green is clearly a massive comeback candidate in 2020 if he can get on the field and stay there. And if he puts up a monster season, he’s already made it clear he wants to remain with the Bengals for the long-term.
