The NBA regular season is only two weeks away, and optimism is brimming in Brooklyn, where the Nets have championship aspirations. After tipping off the preseason with a 26-point win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, Brooklyn already has some early momentum.
During training camp, Nets star guard James Harden is emphasizing that communication will be important for the Nets’ younger players this year.
“We got a lot of guys who aren’t very vocal, who are very quiet and to themselves,” Harden said in an interview with Sarah Kustok and Michael Grady of SiriusXM. “So we kind of have to get that out of them, to where they’re overtalking in this camp to make it easier on the court.
“Because when we’re in games, that communication, that guy saying, ‘I got your back’ or ‘I’m the low man,’ it gives the other guys confidence.”
With so many trades and midseason signings shaping the Nets roster last year, it was difficult for players to acclimate on and off the court. The summer, training camp and now preseason gives the Nets something they didn’t have last year: preparation time.
It will be interesting to see how the Nets take advantage of it, considering that last season’s run was primarily built on the fly.
