James Harden became only the second player in Nets franchise history to log four triple-doubles in a season when he finished with 24 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in Brooklyn’s 124-120 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. In his five non-triple-double performances for the Nets, Harden has dished out 10 or more assists four times, adding just as many double-doubles to his resume.
Harden has also maintained his league-leading assist rate as the only NBA averaging 10 or more assists per game. Tuesday’s performance brought his average up to an even 12 assists per game.
With his final assist on the night, Harden made a little history Tuesday. He passed Kevin Garnett (5,445 assists) on the NBA’s all-time assists leaderboard. Harden now stands alone at No. 50 with 5,446 career assists.
“It’s not about stats for me,” Harden said on a Zoom call with reporters Tuesday. “It’s about getting a win. I think since I’ve been here, I’ve tried to do whatever it takes in order for us to have a win. That’s all that matters.”
Up next on Harden’s list is Dennis Johnson at 5,499.
