James Harden offered high praise for Nets rookie Cam Thomas

Nets guard James Harden said rookie Cam Thomas reminds him of a younger version of himself.

Brooklyn Nets rookie Cameron Thomas was highly touted entering the NBA draft as a pure scorer, and that ability carried over into the Las Vegas Summer League and, now, the preseason.

Thomas topped all players in scoring during summer league and even led the Nets during their preseason opener on Sunday. Nets head coach Steve Nash praised Thomas on his ability to get to his spots and hit shots, two areas that were on display in that win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

He also garnered a strong comparison from James Harden on Thursday.

Harden, in speaking with the media, said Thomas reminds him of a younger version of himself. He even said Thomas was a better scorer than he was coming out of college at Arizona State. Harden can also see some of his own moves in Thomas’ game.

Thomas entered training camp vowing to earn playing time in the rotation. With such a star-studded roster of veterans, Thomas could have a difficult time seeing the floor in the regular season but he vowed not to back down from the challenge.

With much uncertainty surrounding Kyrie Irving this season, the Nets could turn to Thomas more in those games Irving is unable to play in. Thomas has proven he can come in and give the team some scoring off the bench, which could be very beneficial at times.

Thomas’ role this season may very well fluctuate, but it is clear that he will be ready to go whenever his number may be called.
