Nets guard James Harden is in no rush to sign a contract extension with the Brooklyn Nets. After arriving from the Houston Rockets in January, the Beard has made it his goal to win a championship in Brooklyn. Prior to his arrival, he had championship aspirations in mind with the Rockets, but after eight full seasons there, he just kept falling short.
The 32-year-old is not looking at his past though. Instead, he has his eyes set on the future. During Nets Media Day, Harden had this to say on signing a contract extension to stay in Brooklyn:
“I’m focused on trying to bring a championship to this city. But as far as an extension, I’m just being patient with it. I went through a lot last year and I want to make sure I’m in the right mindset and knowing long-term that ultimately I want to be in Brooklyn for the rest of my career. So it’s no rush.”
What stood out more following these comments was what the former league MVP had to say in regards to money. He admitted that he does not care about the money and that he is only focused on getting over the hump:
“It’s not about the money to me. I’ve been on enough teams where we fell short, so my mindset and my goal is to make sure that we’re able to build this team to be able to compete and contend for multiple, multiple years at the highest level so it’s not about the money.”
