After a week of rehab since having his cast on his fractured wrist removed on Monday, LaMelo Ball is nearing a return to the lineup for the Charlotte Hornets. Ahead of Friday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Hornets head coach James Borrego provided an update on his rookie point guard.
“He’s made progress, I can say that for sure,” he said. “From day one to where he’s at today, he’s made a significant jump. We still need to figure that out over the next week or so where he’s at, where his comfort level is but I’m seeing progress. Every day it’s getting better and better so that is positive for us. There’s no setbacks. His workouts have been positive, so we’re moving in the right direction.”
During Thursday’s game against the Bulls, Bally Sports showed footage of Ball working out pregame. Ball was working on ball handling drills and layups in the footage, though there was no footage of Ball attempting jumpers.
The initial belief, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, was that Ball would return to the court 7-10 days after having his cast removed on April 19. That would put his tentative return around April 27 or 28 when the Hornets play the Bucks and Celtics, respectively.
