Cincinnati Bengals wideout Ja’Marr Chase had a rather quiet day as his team beat the New York Jets.
But quiet for Chase, funnily enough, is six catches and a touchdown.
That touchdown raised a ton of eyebrows for anyone who saw it, too. Chase broke open in the endzone as Jets defenders just appeared to go the wrong way, making for an apparently blown coverage.
It turns out Chase actually asked the defenders what happened on the play, too. Chase linked up with former Cincinnati Bearcats star Sauce Gardner and got the confirmation, as captured by The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt:
Ja'Marr Chase said that Sauce Gardner told him the #Jets were supposed to switch on the wide-open TD.
Chase: "The defense just got lost on a switch."

Some other fun notes from Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer:
Ja'Marr Chase on the Jets' coverage: "They were doing a little bit of everything. Quarters, man, Cover 3, Cover 2 sometimes. Some Palms. They did a lot with their coverage." A lot of it was shaded to him.
"This is a game that showed you can’t double Ja’Marr," Tyler Boyd said.

Chase-Gardner was a fun duel all day and it’s clear the rookie has a massively bright future. But while the Jets focused on Chase, Tyler Boyd caught four passes for 105 yards and a score and Tee Higgins caught five for 93.
