Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase wouldn’t mind a change to leadership approach from quarterback Joe Burrow.
That’s a topic of discussion this week after the team’s 0-3 start because Burrow himself said he was considering changes after the latest loss.
But while speculation about Burrow being a more vocal leader at a critical time has been popular on social media, Chase is shrugging it off and welcoming any changes the quarterback decides to make.
“Joe’s always been a leader to me,” Chase said, according to Mike Petraglia of CLNS Media. “I’ve never really seen him say extra, like anything out of ordinary to get us going. He’s pretty much himself. For me, I don’t know what he’s telling other people personally.”
This, of course, is the only bit going viral on social media, in regards to Chase’s thoughts on Burrow being more vocal: “I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind it, though.”
By most accounts, Burrow is more of a lead-by-example type with some key speeches peppered in for good measure. And to paraphrase the theme of Burrow’s responses this week on the topic, he’s essentially said there is only so much you can say before guys need to go out there motivated and do their thing, anyway.
It’s safe to presume that most players in the locker room align with Chase on this. Some are very publicly angry about the 0-3 start, too, suggesting that the fight hasn’t exactly gone out despite the long historical odds of a playoff berth.
