Jamaal Williams makes it crystal clear: he’s an Aaron Rodgers fan. Williams played in the Packers backfield with Rodgers for the first four years of his NFL career before joining the Detroit Lions this offseason as a free agent.
But it wouldn’t bother Williams if the ongoing Rodgers drama in Green Bay resulted in the perennial All-Pro taking time away from the Packers, perhaps permanently. Williams is happy to be in Detroit and knows that the Packers losing Rodgers helps out his new team.
“I just want him just to be happy, live his life and do what he needs to do,” Williams said Thursday during OTAs. “But for the Lions, for my team and everything, uh, yeah, go ahead and just stay out for a minute. Let us go ahead and get loose. I mean, you know, we’ll go against him, too, but make it easier for us.“
Williams wouldn’t bite on predicting what happens with Rodgers, but he clearly respects his old quarterback.
“I wish him the best,” Williams said. “That’s my boy and I just want him to do whatever makes him happy.”
Rodgers is expected to skip the Packers’ upcoming mandatory minicamp in his ongoing dispute with management.
