When Jalen Suggs hears his name called on the night of the NBA draft, the former Gonzaga Bulldogs guard will turn into a millionaire virtually overnight.

The projected top-five pick is excited to begin his NBA career on the court, and everything that comes with it off of the court. He is eager to start experiencing the business side of joining the NBA and everything that entails.

His draft position will ultimately dictate his salary, with each spot slotted in the NBA.

While the salary cap still isn’t set yet for next season, Anthony Edwards, who was the top pick last year, earned $8,131,200 this season. Conversely, Isaac Okoro, the fifth pick, made $5,334,100 during his first year so Suggs can expect a similar range next year.

Suggs, speaking in an interview with Nicolas Vegas of CNBC, detailed how he plans on handling his newfound wealth. He has learned firsthand from his father, Larry, who was a former athlete, on how to handle his finances and how to spend it wisely.

While Suggs will be smart with his money, he also plans to splurge a little bit. He has some clothes and shoes atop his wishlist but he wants to first get his mother her dream car.

I really want to get a nice car, not even for myself, for my mom. She’s got an Escalade that she’s dreamed of and talked about almost every day. I really want to get that for her. I never could’ve gotten here all by myself.

Perhaps some of the best moments each year occur when players can repay the favor and buy family members brand new cars and other related gifts. The ability to take care of their parents and other family is often one reason why they want to turn pro and it has given us some incredible reactions.

We look forward to seeing Suggs and other rookies take care of their family members in the coming months…

The NBA draft is set to take place on July 29.
