Deshaun Watson has officially requested a trade from the Houston Texans as his relationship with the organization has diminished dramatically over the last few weeks. The Los Angeles Rams have a quarterback who’s currently on a four-year, $134 million contract, but they seem to be ready to move on from Jared Goff.
Could the Rams and Watson somehow be a match this offseason? Jalen Ramsey seems to think so.
On the NFL’s Pro Bowl Verzuz, Ramsey and DeAndre Hopkins chatted for nearly an hour about various topics and at one point, Watson’s name came up. Hopkins called him “the ex-Texan, Deshaun Watson,” making it seem as if there’s no chance he’ll play in Houston again.
Unprovoked, Ramsey jumped in and speculated about Los Angeles being a landing spot.
“Y’all know where he going to be next year,” Ramsey said.
“Where he going to be?” Deion Sanders asked.
“Come on now. You see the basketball court. We ready to hoop. L.A.” Ramsey replied.
There’s an added wrinkle to this equation. Ramsey and Watson share the same agent, David Mulugheta. That’s one way to connect the dots between Watson and the Rams, and clearly, Ramsey would like the idea of the Pro Bowl quarterback coming to Los Angeles.
Furthermore, Ramsey also commented on one of Watson’s recent Instagram posts, “Look like a LA man tbh👀🤷🏾♂️”
Getting Watson to Los Angeles is much easier said than done, however. Considering Jamal Adams, a safety, was just traded for two first-round picks last year, the asking price for Watson has to be at least three first-rounders.
The Rams don’t have one this year, so if a deal were to get done between the Rams and Houston, the Texans would have to wait a year to use one of the first-rounders. That’s probably not something Houston wants to do.
And if the Rams were to acquire Watson, they can only dump Goff in a trade; they can’t cut him due to his $65.5 million dead cap hit. Houston might take Goff in a deal, but that’s far from certain.
One thing’s for sure, though: Watson would be a massive upgrade for the Rams, and Ramsey wouldn’t mind playing on the same team as his former AFC South foe.
