The upcoming 2024 college football season will be one to remember for a number of reasons. For fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide, it will be because the team will be led by a new head coach. After the 2023 season concluded, Nick Saban announced his decision to retire from coaching after nearly two decades and a historic run with the Crimson Tide.
Former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer was the man chosen to be Saban’s immediate successor, a position not envied by many.
Following Saban as the head coach of Alabama comes with high expectations, but it also comes with a challenge not many may think about.
Saban had such a particular way of doing things, that changing it may lead to a whole host of issues. For example, Saban wasn’t one to overly celebrate. How will players respond to DeBoer if he shows significantly more emotion than Saban did?
Recently, Jalen Milroe spoke on one of the biggest changes between the two coaches, and it essentially answers the question above.
On the Saturday Down South Podcast, Milroe talked about a particular instance where DeBoer wanted Milroe to celebrate making an impressive pass in practice. This shocked Milroe because, under Saban, he was trained to be ready for the next play and not to marvel at an individual play.
