Jalen Milroe points to not playing early as the best thing for him in college

Waiting behind Bryce Young was the best thing for Jalen Milroe

[autotag]Jalen Milroe[/autotag] became a household name during the 2023 college football season as the quarterback for [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Milroe is now hoping to take his game to the next level in 2024 under the leadership of new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer.

So what led to Milroe’s success in his first season as a starter in 2023? According to Milroe, many factors led to it, but perhaps the most important one may surprise you.

During a one-on-one interview with Adam Breneman, Milroe pointed out that having to wait his turn to become the starter as one of the best things for him.

“Honestly, I think the best thing for me wasn’t playing initially coming into college,” Milroe said. “Learning from great quarterbacks that were in college football. Of course, firsthand, having Bryce [Young] here. But also quarterbacks in college football with how well they’re playing, whoever was the top quarterback in the years that I wasn’t the quarterback, that was great for me not to play, be observant, look at football in a different lens because ultimately that got me better. Being off the field and learning, growing with the coaches that we had here, because we have a lot of people that are knowledgable in the whole — everyone that was here. So that was what I tried to do, keep building, because whenever my time presented itself, it was time to execute and make the most out of it.”

Milroe certainly took advantage of the opportunity last season leading the Crimson Tide to a win over Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship and a Rose Bowl appearance in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

The redshirt junior from Texas is expected to have one of the best seasons out of any quarterback in the country in 2024.
