From the time I started covering the Buffaloes a little over a year ago, I haven’t been afraid to share my opinions on the happenings of Colorado athletics. But it’s also important to hear about what others think from time to time as well.
Much like we did with BuffStampede’s Jimmie Searfoss, I sought out the insights of another CU expert to tackle my burning questions for the 2023 season. Jake Schwanitz came to Colorado from Texas by way of the University of New Mexico and will soon enter his second football season leading DNVR Buffs. Schwanitz does an incredible job on his Twitter page and with his DNVR Buffs podcasts.
I asked Schwanitz for his thoughts on Colorado’s coaching staff and which assistants he’s most excited to watch work:
It’s quite an impressive group of coaches together in Colorado. Coach Prime is quick to remind us he’s an old-school coach and he brought in a collection of experienced and proven coaches across the board who also fit that bill. Through what we’ve seen from Well Off Media, Reach the People and Thee Pregame show on YouTube, these coaches have already created a player-led environment with core philosophies based on love for the game, accountability and work ethic. This staff also has experienced play callers and multiple head coaches to hold themselves to the highest standard with Coach Prime as the ringleader.
Wide receivers coach Brett Batolone and his group is the most intriguing group on the team. Sean Lewis called them the “angels” of his offense during the spring and the talent is rich. On the defensive side, it’s Sal Suneri and the defensive line. They’ve brought in guys from all levels of college football and it will be fun to see who emerges from that group.
