The New England Patriots released punter Jake Bailey on Friday. This move was first reported by the team.
Bailey began his career with the Patriots in 2019, when he was named the team’s starting punter. He was selected by the Patriots in that year’s draft in the fifth round.
Bailey was named an All-Pro in 2020, after averaging 48.7 gross yards per punt. He booted 31 punts inside the 20-yard line. He was officially named to the 2020 Associated Press All-Pro First-Team in January 2021. This was the first time a Patriots punter had been given this honor.
New England recently signed him to a four-year $13.5 million contract extension on August 1, 2022. Injuries nagged him throughout the course of the season, and he was officially placed on injured reserve.
It was revealed in January that he was placed on injured reserve/suspension, and he ultimately filed a grievance against the team.
