After getting an extended rest period after an embarrassing prime-time showing against the Miami Dolphins, the Jags will now head up north and attempt to end this quarter of the season at 2-2. To do so, they will have to go through a Cincinnati Bengals team who they have a great deal of history with and have been close to acquiring their first win.

Clearly, when looking at both teams fans could see this going either way because both teams struggle defensively, but have quarterbacks who can get hot rather quickly. For that reason, we had a mixed bag of predictions from our writers, all of whom took the Jags to win last week.

Here are our individual Week 4 analysis on how Sunday’s battle of the felines could go this afternoon:

James Johnson (@Sportsgrind_Don): Jaguars 24, Bengals 21

The Jags took a punch to the gut last Thursday against the Dolphins and it’s one that has left the fanbase concerned. For that reason, nobody knows exactly what team will show up Sunday against a competitive Bengals team that has been in all of their games.

All of that being said, my gut tells me Jacksonville will win this one as the Bengals are a lot like them and find themselves being the team others can rebound against. I do think it will go down to the wire, however, as Joe Burrow very well could have a good game. To slow him down, though, the Jags should give the Bengals a heavy dose of James Robinson and control the clock. That also should aid Gardner Minshew II to have a good day throwing downfield as his top target, DJ Chark, will be back.

Phil Smith (@PhiltheFilipino): Jaguars 24, Bengals 20

The Jaguars have had some extended time off since their Thursday night debacle in front of a national audience. Joe Burrow and these Bengals are going to be eager for their first win, but they’re also pretty banged up. If DJ Chark is at least 75%, I think that makes a huge difference. I also expect James Robinson to continue to establish himself as a legit workhorse and have himself another solid game. No first win quite yet for Joey B.

Daniel Griffis (@DanDGriffis): Bengals 23, Jaguars 20

The Jaguars travel north to face the Bengals, led by rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. The No. 1 overall pick has been exceptional thus far in his rookie campaign but has been hindered by a less than stellar Cincy offensive line. If the Jags can fix their pass rush and create pressure against Burrow, they have a solid shot to win. That said, I think the home team takes this one.

Robert Ricks (@rrickswriting): Jaguars 29, Bengals 23

While expectations are not high for this game, there is still a certain amount of intrigue for this game with two rising young quarterbacks. This will be a bounce back game for Gardner Minshew II after a miserable Dolphins loss and the Jags will win a tough one against Cincy.

Will Frost (@willfrost_): Bengals 26, Jaguars 17

This matchup is the best indicator for where the Jaguars’ season is heading. A victory against this young Bengals team could spark the momentum this team seemed to gain after its promising Week 1 showing, but another loss would really dampen the mood within the organization.

Sunday’s opponents simply cannot stop potent pass rushers and Joe Burrow has already been hit more times this year than he did throughout his final season at Louisiana State.

If Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson can’t find real estate behind the Bengals’ offensive line then they will struggle to generate pressure against anyone. Fans will be for a better start to the game from the defensive unit, but I can’t imagine there will be many points in this one.

Jacob DeLawrence (@_Jdela): Jaguars 24, Bengals 21

The Jags are coming off a disappointing and honestly embarrassing performance against the Dolphins. Next up the winless Bengals, who played the Eagles to a tie last week. This season is make or break for Gardner Minshew and his performance against Joe Burrow will be used as a measure of his growth. Much like last week, the Jags should win this game but this team has proven to us that we never know what to expect. That said, the jags escape this one by a field goal.
